  • For Prada’s futuristic Fall/Winter 1998 collection, unexpected materials like plastic, silicone, film and fur were used on minimalist silhouettes to create visual interest, rather than through using print or overt ornament. This piece follows that approach, using a simple sleeveless shell top as the foundation.

    The front is cut entirely in astrakhan fur, its natural ripples and texture functioning as pattern and relief. Princess seams and darts give the top a close fit, with the fur concealing most of the seaming.

    A lightweight ribbed wool-knit back adds both stretch and comfort to the close fit.

    The contrast of materials within such a minimal shape sums up this Prada collection: a tension between restraint and decoration through a thoughtful use of materials and silhouettes.
