  • In her final collection for Céline, Phoebe Philo offered playful interpretations of knitwear. This piece, in boiled khaki-gray wool, explores the familiar ways we wear sweaters: tied over the shoulders or simply pulled on.

The design combines both of those gestures by connecting two sweaters: a crew-neck and a V-neck, joined shoulder to sleeve. This enables the wearer to don it both ways at once, as seen on Binx Walton in Céline’s Pre-Fall 2018 lookbook.

The design also allows another option: turning one sweater inside out into the other creates a double-layered knit that mimics wearing two sweaters for added warmth.

This simple approach of using ordinary manners of dressing results in an unexpectedly original and practical piece of knitwear.
