  • For Spring/Summer 2015, Phoebe Philo loosened her rigorous editing process and worked “open to everything”, welcoming uncertainty and ambiguity to show clothes that felt playful, more fluid, yet still pragmatic and functional. Seemingly appearing like tailored separates, this suit is actually a single garment, cut in heavy viscose crepe: substantial and weighty, yet fluid in motion.

    A closer look at the “jacket” reveals the illusion: the right breast is hemmed and overlaps the left breast, that contrastingly has no hem and runs straight down into the trousers in an uninterrupted line.

    Construction and function doubles as decoration: double-satin belts thread through the jacket, wrapping around the waist to meet at the front. Cut extra long, they secure the piece while moving and flaring as you walk. White contrast-stitching throughout emphasizes the suit’s lines. Trousers are cut palazzo-style to an exaggerated flare, kicking out dramatically with movement.

    In effect, the suit is work and play simultaneously, in both design and function.
