Outerwear in Céline’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection was defined by cocoon and trapeze shapes; the latter including this coat. The silhouette recalls triangular silhouettes from the post-war era, like this quilted one by Lanvin from 1951.

Similarly, this Celine piece shares that triangular volume, for a clean A-line that falls away from the body and allows for ease of movement.

The coat is cut in pale heathered grey wool mikado, which allows it to hold an architectural shape, but visually registers as soft—closer to fuzzy jersey than rigid gazar.

From the front, it appears almost like a single cut of cloth, with merely a simple round neck, an overlapping open front, and dropped shoulders that fall into generous three-quarter sleeves, which expose the forearms to balance the visual volume.

On the sleeves, an angled dart connects to the side seam, where pockets are discreetly set, and continues in an uninterrupted line down to the hem.
