  • Inspired by the American frontier, Prada’s Fall/Winter 1993 collection offered a contemporary reinterpretation of Old West dress. Wide-lapel jackets, trousers, and skirts were cinched with plate-buckle belts, each engraved with the Prada logo in brushed gold-plated metal; a possible nod to Western belt buckles.

    The collection marked the introduction of that buckle design, now a recognizable house signature that Prada continues to produce to this day.

    Part of the same collection is this column skirt in double-face navy wool–cashmere, which uses the same buckle design on a fabric-covered leather belt strap. The skirt is made with five-pocket styling similar to the trousers shown in the collection; perhaps a reference to the classic five-pocket construction of jeans, another garment common to Western wear.
