  • Staged inside a blown-up parachute tent, Phoebe Philo presented her Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Inspired by late-’70s and early-’80s images of well-dressed women on Avenue Foch, Philo aimed to recapture a sense of joy and freedom in dressing for a modern, working woman. This white dress was one expression of that idea.

    Cut in technical fluid silk, the bodice forms a plunging V with open sides, its lace openwork looking as if a lace-trimmed table runner has been repurposed and engineered into a garment. At the sides, straps with black buckles secure it in place.

    The lace forms a graphic chevron that directs the eye down to a fitted, smocked yoke at the hips, carrying a tulip-shaped drop-waist skirt in the same silk. Cut longer at the sides, the skirt swings and billows as the wearer moves.
