  • Phoebe Philo’s collection for Céline’s Spring/Summer 2016 was a series of propositions to a self-imposed question: what clothes would a woman need for a year of travel?

    One compelling answer was the show’s series of opening looks: several lace-trimmed slip dresses, which Céline posed as adaptable options that can transition from day to evening, to perhaps even sleepwear, should the need arise.

    Shown in Look 2, this dress has a bimaterial body, appearing as if a nightdress had been joined with a pleated skirt. Cut in black bonded charmeuse, the top features sheer panels of contrasting white floral lace. The skirt, which also features white lace trim, is made in a compact, neoprene-like technical knit, with its pleats woven directly into the fabric for a permanent finish.

    Sheer lace panels on the deep v front allow for various layering possibilities, or full bare-breasted wear as shown on the Céline runway.
