  • Part of Céline’s Resort 2016 lookbook, this long asymmetrical dress was shown in two fabrications: one in bright orange tiger-print cotton, and this one in black linen–viscose canvas, which better highlights the design choices and pattern work.

    At the neckline, a twisted knot forms a keyhole opening at the chest; on the back bodice, overlapping panels create a triangular opening.

    On the dress’s front-slit skirt is its defining detail: two pairs of self-ties with squared ends, which can be knotted various ways or left to hang, changing how the dress falls around the legs.

    The skirt’s unusual pattern cutting and its integrated ties make it comparable to a dress from Comme des Garçons’ seminal 1997 "Body Meets Dress, Dress Meets Body" collection. The likewise sleeveless dress features built-in self-ties, but finished with openings on the ends in a similar manner as t-shirt sleeves.
