  • For Spring 2013, Phoebe Philo eased the rigor of Céline, loosening the rigid and linear silhouettes into more fluid, relaxed shapes, with frayed edges and fabric twists that evoked a sense of refined nonchalance. Shown in Look 15, this deep navy dress captures just that.

    Cut in textured viscose sablé, its slightly cap-shouldered bodice fits close on the body and comes finished with raw edges on the armscyes and collar. The waist seam is placed high against the long, ankle-length, flared skirt for an elongating effect. The skirt is generously cut with wide panels that flare out as one moves in it, ending in thread-heavy, fringed hems.

    Featured prominently in the season’s campaign by Juergen Teller, where house muse Daria Werbowy sits on a poolside chaise, the dress figures in one of the defining images of Philo’s Céline.
