Part of Phoebe Philo’s final collection for Céline, this blanket coat takes a highly literal approach to practical outerwear.

It is constructed from two felted wool blankets seamed together at the top and sides to form a single, poncho-like garment. The front panel is longer, in grey wool finished with red viscose satin trim; the back is shorter, in a darker grey wool with blue satin trim. The colors on the reverse side of each blanket match the satin trim. When worn, the different lengths and colours clearly mark the front and back, drawing a sharp, graphic frame around the body.

The coat’s deliberately straightforward design makes it highly adaptable. Armholes are cut generously so that the piece can be rotated, worn front to back, or reoriented on the body, with each opening able to function as armhole or collar. This allows the wearer to decide the coat’s shape and volume on the body.

Off the body, the piece can be laid flat and used unironically as a blanket, underscoring its dual identity as both garment and object.
