Revealing the female form through quietly radical everyday dressing was central to Céline’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, reflected in this bimaterial top.

Across the shoulders and sleeves, grey and black wool tricotine is cut into an angled yoke that sits almost like a graphic harness. The armholes are shifted slightly forward, so the tapered sleeves suggest a sense of movement.

In contrast, the body is rendered in fine black viscose jersey—sheer and fluid enough to trace the torso and reveal whatever is worn underneath, offering softness against structure and reflecting the collection’s throughline.

Also worth noting is the influence of Martin Margiela’s work on this piece: the construction recalls his “flat” pieces from 1998, where sleeves were similarly displaced. The top also appears as though most of the torso's wool tricotine shell has been removed, leaving the jersey "lining" to work on its own—echoing Margiela’s approach to deconstruction.
