  • An approach of using parts of the whole to fashion an entirely new garment appears to inform the thinking behind this wool gabardine skirt from Céline’s Resort 2018 collection.

    It appears to be the bottom half of a trench coat, reminiscent of those made by Mackintosh in the 50s — cut up and turned into a skirt.

    Familiar features of those macs are carried over: large twin flap pockets, a long belt with a leather-wrapped buckle (along with the buttoned latch on the center back to prevent the belt from shifting), and the signature light khaki color.

    The high-waisted skirt closes askew on the front by concealed snaps, and a button on the interior waist. The gabardine is interfaced with smooth black fusible to provide structure while retaining a lightweight quality.
